Welcome to ZEV Help! Your Guide to Zero-Emission Commercial Vehicles
ZEV Help is a free, independent educational resource on zero-emission commercial vehicles (ZEVs), from delivery vans and buses to Class 8 trucks. We explain the regulations, technology, charging infrastructure, and costs behind battery-electric and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles so carriers, owner-operators, fleet managers, and public fleets can make confident, well-informed decisions. We are technology-neutral: we don’t sell vehicles or advocate for any one technology. We explain where each works, where it struggles, and what the evidence shows.
The transportation industry is at a turning point. ZEV Help was founded in 2024 by members of the American Trucking Associations (ATA) Leadership Academy, people who work in and around trucking every day. We built this site because the shift to zero-emission commercial vehicles raises hard, practical questions, and the answers are often buried in hundreds of pages of rulemaking.
Our mission is simple: give the trucking community the knowledge, tools, and resources it needs to evaluate zero-emission vehicles on its own terms. We translate complex rules such as CARB’s Advanced Clean Trucks and Advanced Clean Fleets regulations and EPA’s Phase 3 greenhouse gas standards into clear, plain-language guidance, and we track how those rules change.
We also look past the headlines. ZEV Help covers both the tailwinds driving adoption and the headwinds holding it back, from grid capacity and charging to raw materials and day-to-day operations, so you get a balanced picture before you plan charging stations, adjust routes, or budget for new equipment.
We believe sustainability and operational excellence can go hand in hand. Together, let’s move toward a cleaner, more efficient future for American trucking.
ZEV Help organizes the zero-emission commercial vehicle landscape into six practical areas, each written for the people who run trucks, not just the people who regulate them.
Plain-language breakdowns of California (CARB) and federal (EPA) rules for medium- and heavy-duty trucks, with 2026 status updates as regulations change.
How battery-electric and hydrogen fuel cell Class 8 trucks work, where each fits, and what to expect from range, payload, and performance.
What it takes to charge a fleet: depot versus public charging, power needs, utility coordination, and planning timelines.
The real economics of zero-emission trucks, including purchase price, operating costs, and the state and federal incentive programs that can offset them.
A balanced view of the forces speeding up and slowing down adoption, from customer demand and technology gains to grid capacity and raw materials.
Quick answers and references, including common myths, an acronym glossary, industry news, and links to official sources.
